From gas to green in London: Massive heat pump installation at Hillingdon leisure centre.
As part of Hillingdon Council's ambitious roadmap to achieve net zero by 2030, the Highgrove Sports & Leisure Centre—spanning over 4,000 m² across three storeys with a 33-metre pool, gym, spa, and fitness studios—has replaced its old gas boiler system with three Nova Series 440 kW heat pumps, delivering 1,320 kW at full duty from a remote installation.

Challenge
· Support the municipality’s ambitious Strategic Climate Action Plan.
· Heat pumps to be installed at a discrete distance from the centre.
· Gas boiler technology providing heating and warm water.

Solution
· 3 x 440kW Nova Series modules replacing gas boiler technology.
· Discrete and quiet outdoor installation some distance away from the centre.
· Centrally controlled modules providing 1,320kW deliver yat full duty.
Result
· Complete removal of fossil fuel heating technology from the building.
· An expected annual CO₂ emissions reduction of 257 tonnes.
· An estimated 5,135 tonnes of lifetime CO₂ savings over the entire operational lifespan.

"Thermonova heat pumps have been instrumental in helping us deliver substantial carbon reductions in our highest-energy-use buildings."
